That was insane.. I don't know how many points he scored in the 4th, but it was a crapton! People can hate on kobe, but there just isn't a SG that's nearly as dangerous as he is when he catches fire.
With that said.. Calderon may be a fairly good offensive PG, but my 5 year old niece plays better defense than he did this game.
wow...46 FGA and 13 3PT. That's a little bit ridiculous, but at least he shot a good percentage.
I still hate the guy.
Frank Layden, Utah Jazz president, on a former player:"I told him, 'Son, what is it with you. Is it ignorance or apathy?' He said, 'Coach, I don't know and I don't care.'"
55 in the second half is almost as amazing as 81 in the game, if someone is hittin over sixty percent of their shots i got no problem with them shootin and shootin...
the problem with him is when he's shootin 20 percent he keeps shootin and shootin..
personaly i wouldnt like to play with him cause it would get a little frustrating running down the court three or four times and not getting a touch, however what he did tonight was simply amazing...
Here's my take. I'm in awe over his accomplishment, and I'll give him props. But I still don't like him or the Lakers. I think this could have happened to a nicer guy.
I will agree with whomever said that there is no one more dangerous when he catches fire, though.

Yell, while I agree with you that it is an amazing performance. And, I'm really impressed by it, I dont' have to like it. And it doesn't mean I don't enjoy basketball, I just don't enjoy Kobe's style of ball.
While I admit that he is the greatest scorer in the game today, that's not the only reason I like basketball. I don't like the way Kobe plays, I didn't like the way Michael played, I didn't like Wilt either.
I like Bill Russell over Wilt I like Magic over Jordan. I like Stockton over Marbury. I like Lebron over Kobe.
I like to watch the all around game players more. That what "IS" basketball as far as I'm concerned. Great shooting by Kobe tonight. It's just not the type of game I like.

81 points is truly amazing , but like many people said it can't be considered the greatest individual performance of this era. Basketball is a team game.
I'd rather see a Tim Duncan dropping 21pts , 20rbds , 10 ast and 8 blocks in the last game of the NBA finals in 2003 than 81 pts from Kobe.
I'd rather watch Nash help 4 of his teamates beat their carreer high in points scored over this season than Kobe scoring 81 points.
When Bryant finished on 37+ possessions (those are games when he feels hot): - Lakers are 6-8 (15-9 in rest of games) - in those 14 games their team FG% only 3 times overpass their season average of .447 (twice against Dallas)
In those 14 games if their difference in rebounding is positive then they are 5-2 and if it is negative then they are 1-6.
My point is that his massive scoring rather hurts his team in big picture and so important statistics like rebounding has more importance for team success.
I have my own experience with teammates who do not play team ball and feel like all scoring load is on their shoulders. They take hefty shots and wonder why the others could not make their three or four shots a game.

Everybody that keeps saying that his teammates must have been mad is rediculous!!! Whoever said that did not watch the game. The Lakers were down 18pts and nobody on the team could do anything. They were being dominated in every aspect. Kobe sat for the first half of the second quarter, and watched his team get dominated on their home court. It was some of the worst defense I have ever seen. You don't let the Raptors score over 60 on your home court in the first half. IF YOU WATCHED THE GAME, you saw Kobe take the game on his shoulders. Lamar Odom looked liked the worst player on the planet, he didn't make his first field goal until either the late 3rd, or the 4th!! this was not a case of Kobe not letting his teammates play. Not by any means. I like the reference to his assist numbers too. We had this discussion last time he dominated like this.
81 points is insane!!! There is nothing that you can say that was bad about this game. If you saw the game then you will understand. I am not defending his off shooting nights, or even his personal life. However, I am lucky enough to have league pass, and I picked up this game in the early second. It took the first 2 shots that I saw him take for me to click record on the DVR. I didn't think you could top his 62 in 3 quarters, but he did last night. Simply the best game I have ever seen!!!
Jozef, you should read the press clips, just like Parks described it, they were down and then Kobe took over, this time it had nothing to do with ball hog and stuff, again shooting 60% on 46 att, it'd foolish not to go with the hot hand. Jozef if your SG is shooting like this on a special night you would gladly take a back seat, wouldn't you.
Quote:Kobe sat for the first half of the second quarter, and watched his team get dominated on their home court.
They lose 3-8 in that 6 minute span. It's not much of domination, especially if they allowed 36 points in first 12 minutes. What do you expect from bench players who see their hero breaking records in FG attempts every night? Kobe finished 11 of 21 Lakers positions in first quarter. He got 14 points off it. The rest of the team finished on 10 possessions and got 18 points off it. Great numbers but hard to get grasp on the game.

It looks you somehow missed to praise somebody for his improved defense in 2nd half. Did you notice that Odom and George outrebound Bosh and Villaneuva 15-2 in second half?
Quote:IF YOU WATCHED THE GAME, you saw Kobe take the game on his shoulders.
I did not but there was decisive 24-8 run when Lakers went from 65-77 to 89-85 lead: Parker scored 6, Odom 4 and Mihm 4 points. There was momentum probably.

Maybe it's your best game. However consider that Toronto played Matt Bonner at center position. He rebounds at John Amaechi's pace. That's not much of help defense for Mo Petterson. Well, and Jalen Rose cannot defend anybody. Toronto is #30 in Rebounds per game. Toronto is #30 in Blocks per game. BTW, Bonner collected his first rebound in 4th quarter...
Once again, I repeat this kind of performance will hurt Lakers team in big picture... but that's exactly what Kobe wants: One-man show. That's why he could not stand Shaq, that's why he run Payton out, that's why he was quick to split with Malone. That's why Odom wants out. Kobe needs players who will work for him and shut up.

jozef, don't waste your time. You didn't watch the game. Odom's so called improved defense was a result of Kobe completely turning up the intensity.
"It looks you somehow missed to praise somebody for his improved defense in 2nd half. Did you notice that Odom and George outrebound Bosh and Villaneuva 15-2 in second half?"
There is really nothing to say about this. You can hate Kobe all you want. This won't hurt them in the long run. He did what he did because he had to. They were getting killed, and Odom looked like a child out there. Don't bother with coming back with any stats that you read...because they don't matter. It was insane, and I couldn't believe what I saw.
"but that's exactly what Kobe wants: One-man show."
That is what I keep hearing from anyone. I have seen so many games this year when Kobe has been running the triangle, but his worthless teammates can't produce. Then he goes off by himself and does his thing. I'm not saying that is good or bad, but people are not watching his games and they are saying that he is being too selfish. He is a one man show sometimes, and it is not good for the team. Other times he is a one man show because the team is rediculous...and it sparks the team in a good way.
