Looks like the Jazz biggest need will be SG and Center in the draft. The draft looks very slim at center so SG seems to be the best bet. Also it look like the lottery my also be in the Jazz future so in this thread we will say all SG are up for grabs.
Which on would you like to draft. My pick is for Rodney Carney. Is a Senior so he will be more NBA ready, is long to help defend the 3 point line and seems to have All Star ability.
"And with the 16 pick in the 2006 NBA draft, the Utah Jazz select Will Blalock from Iowa State" -- David Stern.
I went with gay because out of that list that's who i would want, but there's no way that gay would be available for the jazz. I agree that he may show a little lack of heart occasionally, but he is insanely athletic, and he's huge. He has the potential to be an absolute lock down defender, as well as a 25+ point scorer. Of course we all know what potential is worth if there's no heart. He seems to have trouble taking over as "the man" for his team when it's obvious that he's the best player on his team. He will have one night when he's just amazing and the next he will look 100% ordinary. Also i see him playing the 3, not the 2.
Carney is crazy athletic, and he's good, but i just don't like him. I can't even really explain why, except that he plays for memphis, which is strike one. I actually haven't seen him play a whole lot, so i don't have much to offer here. Once again, because he plays for memphis, which is possibley my least favorite college basketball team.
Reddick would be good, but once again i don't think he'll be available. He's shown this year that he's more than just a shooter. I still think he'll struggle with the transition because of his lack of height and athleticism for the 2 guard spot.
I disagree with you on brewer though. His shot is UGLY! but it does seem to fall for him. Although, only on certain nights. He's a very streaky shooter, and he seems to have been struggling lately, but i would LOVE if the jazz got him. He is probably a tie for first place in my book of players i would like to see on the jazz.
I don't know a whole lot about Shawne williams, so i didn't vote for him. I don't think i've ever even watched him play actually.
Randy Foye is the best option if he's there. Allan ray in the second round, and we can change our name to the villanova Jazz.
Seriously though Foye would have been my choice if he were up there. He's a physical beast, and he's pretty consistent. There isn't much i don't like about him.
I don't think any of the 5 guys you listed will be on the board when the Jazz pick. Unless, of course, we tank the rest of the season. All these guys will go in the top 10 and I don't think it's likely we get a top 10 pick.
The more realistic guys would be Randy Foye, Maurice Ager, Brandon Roy, Rudy Fernandez, Hassan Adams, et al. Out of this list I have seen Roy, Adams and Ager play on multiple occassions. Truthfully, I like all of them. Roy seems like the kind of guy that could slide between the 2 and 3 spots and take Harp's place as a backup at those positions. He's a good shooter, has a great feel for the game and is a great passer for a 2/3. I like what I have read about Foye, but I have never seen him play. Some of his draft profiles say he's a combo-type guard and I wouldn't mind developing one of those types. He could get minutes at the 2 until CJ is ready, then he can get backup minutes at both the 2 and 1 positions.
Maurice Ager - Good shooter and solid D. Could even play a little 3. Randy Foye - Electric player. More of a 1/2 combo. It would be fun to watch him and Deron play together. Rudy Fernandez - Haven't seen him play, but hear he is a stud.
2nd rounder Allen Ray - He is only 6'2" but can shoot the lights out. I would love to see him come off the bench.
I agree that these players probably won't be there for the jazz. Who knows though, there's still quite a bit of the season left, and anything could happen.
There are a lot of fantastic shooting guards in next year's draft, the question is do we want to draft one?
It seems to me CJ is going to get more play next year, and having someone ahead of him that is also a rookie may slow his development. I'd like to see the Jazz trade expiring contracts for a veteran shooting guard. Even Jalen Rose if it came down to it.
